Music controls and a taskbar mini-player for Windows

Music Island is a free, open-source media controller for Windows 10 and 11. It puts playback controls at the top edge of your desktop and offers an optional mini-player beside the system tray. Your existing music app still plays the audio.

Control music without switching windows

Open your preferred music app and start a track. Music Island reads the Windows media session and shows the artwork, title and playback state. Pause, skip or seek from the island. Available controls depend on what the selected player exposes.

The island is a controller, not a streaming service, music library or replacement for Spotify. It does not unlock paid features or remove advertising from your player.

Set up the portable app

  1. Download music-island.exe from the official GitHub Releases page and keep it in a folder.
  2. Open the file on Windows 10 or 11. The executable is unsigned, so Windows may show SmartScreen; the source and release checksum are available on GitHub.
  3. Choose the music source in Settings. Windows media controls are the default; start playback in the selected desktop player.
  4. In Appearance, drag controls into the island, reorder them, and adjust its width and scale.

Add the taskbar mini-player

Enable the optional taskbar player in Settings. It sits beside the system tray on the primary horizontal taskbar and follows the taskbar when it appears or hides. Arrange artwork and playback buttons, then add supported reactions, Shuffle or Repeat.

The top-edge island and taskbar player are two views of the same configured media source. Music Island is portable and has no telemetry; Windows autostart is an explicit choice.

Is this a Dynamic Island for Windows?

If you are looking for a Dynamic Island-style music widget on a Windows PC, Music Island offers a customizable top-edge controller. It is an independent Windows application and is not affiliated with Apple, Microsoft or your music provider. It focuses on music, local dictation and optional desktop tools rather than reproducing every iPhone feature.
