A Spotify and Yandex Music widget for Windows

Music Island controls the Spotify desktop app through Windows media controls. It also offers an optional, unofficial Direct Yandex Music connection to the installed desktop client. Both use your existing player and account.

Connect Spotify desktop

  1. Open Spotify on your Windows PC and start a track.
  2. In Music Island, use Windows SMTC as the music source. Spotify exposes its desktop media session to Windows.
  3. Use the island to pause or skip without bringing Spotify to the front. There is no separate Spotify API sign-in in Music Island.
  4. Enable the optional taskbar player if you prefer controls beside the system tray.

Connect Yandex Music

Direct Yandex Music is an explicit opt-in integration with the installed desktop client. Select it in Settings → Music source and follow the connection prompt. The first connection may need a client restart, which requires your consent.

The connection uses a local loopback-only endpoint. It is unofficial and may change after a Yandex client update. Windows media controls remain a separate source you can choose; the configured provider stays authoritative.

Which controls are supported?

Playback, artwork, track progress and available actions come from the selected source. Like, Dislike, Shuffle and Repeat depend on the player and integration. A player that does not expose a usable Windows media session is not automatically supported.

Music Island is not Spotify’s own Miniplayer, a streaming client or a replacement for a music subscription. It does not change your player’s plan, content availability or restrictions.

Customize the widget

Drag artwork, navigation, progress and supported reaction buttons into the island. Move reactions to either side of the progress row, then adjust width and scale. Play/pause and settings remain accessible.

The app runs on Windows 10 and 11, is portable, free and open source, and has no telemetry. Spotify, Yandex and Microsoft are not affiliated with this independent project.
